The all-teen rock band, My Last Revelation, has been peforming since January 2007.
Their music is brooding, edgy, and explosive.
The distinction is in their hard-driven choruses, melodic verses, and unique harmonizations.
They bravely explore abuse, dysfunction, neglect, and addiction;
while contrasting it with the strength and power of faith, hope, and love.
The song "Seek The Truth" (from their "A Blissful Eve" CD) is the band's mission statement.
The goal is seek truth, understand it, and write about it.
Their music is about real-life stories; some from personal experiences and some from observations.
And, while many songwriters dwell on broken hearts and lives,
MLR uses these issues as a way of proving the prevailing powers of hope and love.
They are delivering a message of encouragement; to give hope to those who are without hope.
Their music is a call for everyone to believe in something good.
When listening to their music, it is hard to not be inspired.
And, although their music is not religious, some of their inspiration does comes from their faith in God.
Some might label them as an alternative rock band.
Call it what you want.
Their goal is to entertain and inspire you with positive, up-lifting music;
while remaining unrestricted by a word, label, or category.
But, if it makes you feel good to put them into a genre,
maybe alternative-rock is a close description.
The band follows an extremely busy schedule.
They all attend a public high school;
Derrick is a senior, and Justin and Kevin are both Sophomores.
When not at school, you will find them writing, practicing, perfecting, performing, and recording their music.
Last summer, Jared Miller (the band's original guitarist) stepped down to pursue another dream.
His last performance with the band was at the Orange County Fair in July.
He has had a longtime goal to live and study in Japan.
So, he felt he needed to focus on school in order to make this a reality.
Jared, however, says he will continue writing and performing music.
The bopys perform everywhere and as often as their schedule allows;
including the San Diego and Orange County fairs in Southern California,
and the annual Temecula Music Fest.
They have consistently increased their fan base.
In September 2008, they began recording their first CD, "A Blissful Eve".
They finalized the CD in April, 2009, and it is now available on iTunes and other online distributors.
Many of the lyrics are written by Derrick, although Jared, Justin, and Kevin have also written some, too.
The new music is being composed by Justin and Kevin, with input from Derrick.
The older music was composed by Jared and Kevin; also, with input from Derrick.
But, to separate it like that doesn't tell the whole story.
The lyrics are often written first, then modified to fit the music.
And, it is common for Justin and Kevin to modify the lyrics to fit their singing style.
Which, in the end, means that the music is, fully, a collaborative effort.

Derrick is a senior in high school.
Somehow, he is able to juggle his busy schedule with MLR, school, and church activities, and still maintain 4+ point average.
Derrick is MLR's drummer and lyricist.
But, he is also a master on several other instruments: various keyboards, marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, and others.
For example, Derrick wrote the music for "Fallen Too Short" specifically for the piano.
Derrick says his influence for his music comes from people in comes into contact on a daily basis.
But, he gives God the credit for his talents.
The bands he likes to listen to most are Angels & Airways and Kutless.
But, he adds, it is difficult to pick only one or two.
The most exciting performance, thus far, for Derrick was the Promenade Mall in Temecula last summer.
The band performed a two-hour set and received a big response from their fans.
Derrick is full of energy on and off stage.
Don't be too surprised to find Derrick leaping off the stage into the crowd to greet fans.
He is a dreamer and a doer.
He is quick to lend a hand and provide positive words of encouragement.
When not practicing and performing with MLR or doing school work, Derrick somehow finds time to write, read, and collect comic books.
He jokingly adds, "and Duck breeding" (a private joke).
In addition to all of that, he also performs as one of the drummers for his high school jazz band and his church's worship band.
Derrick also has an affection for Lambchop; the puppet.
For those of you who have an opportunity to attend an MLR performance, look for the tiny puppet attached to his drumset.
Derrick is working hard with the other members of the band to create a whole new show for their next CD.
The goal is to have a new CD ready for release this time next year.
But, that's all that will be said at this time.
There are a lot of ideas about the CD, but they want to keep it top secret.

Kevin Hatch is a sophomore in high school.
His favorite subject is English.
With regards to the band, his primary instrument is bass guitar;
but he is a multi-talented musician.
He also plays guitar (acoustic and electric), piano, mandolin, and trumpet.
When asked who might be a main influence for his music style, his answer was "everyone."
However, the band he listens to most is "The Dear Hunter."
If you met Kevin on the streets, you might be surprised by the contrast between his off-stage and on-stage personas.
On stage, he is bigger than life, and you wouldn't believe he's only 15 years old.
He's jumping, hopping, and grooving with the beat of the music.
The emotion of the music flows out of him as he draws the audience into the show.
He is a true performer.
Off stage, Kevin tends to be quiet, shy and easy going.
He's laid back and relaxed.
But, beneath that quiet exterior is universe of ideas and dreams.
When he's not performing or practicing with MLR, you will still find Kevin somehow involved in music.
He plays bass for his school's jazz band and his church's worship band.
At home, he experiments with pro-tools; searching for that great new sound or the elusive lost chord.
To unwind, he will sit in his room strumming his acoustic guitar playing cover songs, or busily writing some new riff for MLR.
Kevin also likes to write stories, which is explains why English might be his favorite subject.
He loes to perform where the crowd is totally involved and interacting the show.
His favorite show was last summer at the Temecula Mall; the kids crowded around the stage, yelling and screaming.
When asked where he would love to perform someday, his answer was simply, "anywhere the crowd is into the show."
His next big goal is for MLR to produce another CD for release this time next year.
